Inorder to access the internet I have to disable AVG.

This is totally unacceptable - why am I paying for something that I cannot use.

If not I will have to look at other antivirus installations.

This would imply that you are not one of the "partners" that have confirmed your software is compatible with the patch.

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one. Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article. Second, Mozilla wouldn't have created that '''\UPDATED\''' folder in that location - period.

Update '''.mar''' files would have gone to the /App Data/Local/Mozilla/'''updates'''/ ''and a few folder levels deeper'' - ''note the "s" and the folder name being lower-case not all caps''. Firefox creates the updated folder after an update has been downloaded and prepared for applying on the next start and copy the new version from the updated folder to the main Firefox program folder.

------------------ You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software: * [ Safety Scanner] * [ Malware Bytes' Anti-Malware] * [ Anti-Rootkit Utility - TDSSKiller] * [ Adw Cleaner] (for more info, see this [ alternate Adw Cleaner download page]) * [ Hitman Pro] * [ ESET Online Scanner] [ Microsoft Security Essentials] is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one. Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article. That is at least how it works on Linux and Mac and I would assume that it is not different on Windows. So it looks that your security software doesn't like the newly downloaded Firefox update. You can contact AVG for support and make sure you have the latest updates.
